A brand new smile in just one day
Orange Moose Dental always strives to provide the public with a wide range of innovative treatment options and alternatives to traditional treatment modalities.
“When a client approaches us it is usually because they are unhappy with their existing dental condition or because their existing dentures, crowns, bridges or dental work hasn’t lived up to their expectations”, says Dr Hanno Venter, the owner of and principal dentist at Orange Moose Dental. Dr Venter has been training all over the world since he graduated from the most prestigious University in South Africa in 2003. His passion lies with oral rehabilitation and providing the widest and most comprehensive treatment options to his clients.
“I would like to know what all my options are when I go to a professional for their opinion, but also want to have the confidence that these options are backed by thorough research and are not just passing fads or are procedures that the specific professional favours. So many dentists advertise and preach only about the procedures that they like to perform and often are the more costly options for the patients. You can ultimately only offer treatment options to patients that you understand, have been trained in and that you are competent in.”
We would like to shine some light on a very hot topic in dentistry for the last few years, allowing full oral rehabilitation to patients in a single day.
Many clients come to Orange Moose Dental enquiring about a technique widely known by the public as “Teeth in a day” or more commonly known as the “All-on-4™” technique.
What is the All-on-4™ technique?
All-on-4™ is a revolutionary approach developed over a decade ago by Paulo Malo, which allows the total oral rehabilitation of patients with the placement of only 4 titanium implants in each jaw, through a quick and minimally invasive procedure. The implants act as a foundation for fixed hybrid or ceramic prosthesis, which allows the placement of a fixed set of teeth, in all very similar to natural teeth. This technique stabilizes bone levels, keeping the jaws healthy.
By tilting the two implants to the back of the jaw, the All-on-4™ allows even those patients with virtually no bone to have fixed teeth without the need for bone transplants. The result is a fixed (non-removable) natural looking dentition, often indistinguishable from natural teeth
Advantages of the All-on-4™ Technique
- All done in a single day – not only the surgery, but also the placement of fixed (non-removable) teeth with immediate function. Traditional techniques often involve multiple surgeries and can take over a year to complete;
- Natural-looking teeth that feel and work like your natural dentition;
- Highly hygienic – easy to maintain and clean;
- Cost-savings – typically about half the cost of alternative techniques (bone grafting and the placement of more than 4 implants).
- Success rates higher than traditional implant techniques
- Virtually eliminates the need for bone grafting, which is invasive, costly and uncomfortable for patients;
- The procedure is well tolerated and of a short duration – typically takes about 2 hours to complete a full oral rehabilitation;
- Can usually be performed in patients with diabetes, osteoporosis or other health conditions that are often contraindications for bone grafting;
What does the process involve?
During your first visit, Dr Venter will perform a comprehensive oral exam, assessing your current dental health and condition, allowing Dr Venter to give you a range of treatment options that would suit your schedule and budget. A three dimensional xray of your upper and lower jaw will be taken and “virtual” dental implants will be placed on this xray. This allows surgical precision during the planned procedure and helps Dr Venter to ensure that you have enough bone to accommodate the strategically placed four dental implants per jaw that this technique requires.
For the success of the process and procedure it is required by Dr Venter to stay within the guidelines and protocol of the All-on-4™ technique. Now Dr Venter will take a range of photographs to assess your smile and digitally, in conjunction with a Master Ceramist, design your new smile. A set of upper and lower impressions and some additional measurements will be taken by Dr Venter and will be sent to a world renowned Master Ceramist in the south of Australia, who has completed more than 2000 of these cases, to start the process of designing your new teeth.
Dr Venter has been involved and researching this technique since 2005. Developed and continuously refined by its founder, Paulo Malo, thousands of patients around the world have benefited from this procedure. If you suffer from any of these problems, the All-on-4™ could be the right solution for you.
